It’s your body and it’s your responsibility and you can fuck right off if you think I should have some moral, financial or legal obligation to your uterus. planned parenthood doesn’t just benefit women’s uteruses and women’s sex life. why is it so hard to understand that? you’re not obligated morally, financially, or legally to my personal sex life or my uterus. no. but perhaps you should feel some sort of obligation in helping to regulate all the fucking births in this country. or are we still stuck in the traditional sexist thinking that it’s a woman’s frivolous sex life that makes a baby and that, subsequently, it’s her sole responsibility to take care of it? planned parenthood is the most affordable and accessible birth control that this country has. take that away… and a lot more women will not be able to afford it. that equals more unwanted births. more fucking people. i would be willing to bet a lot of money that you’ve slept with at least one girl that has used planned parenthood to get her birth control. so maybe before you start spouting off entitled shit about government and taxes, or telling women to fuck off if they support planned parenthood, you take a second think how many baby kirbies would be running around without it. They think that if a given publicly funded service or benefit doesn’t directly, immediately apply to them, then they shouldn’t have to pay for it. They simply don’t see the long-term, broader benefits to EVERYONE of having a healthy, well-educated populace, and they seem to think that everyone is born with enough financial and personal support to be able to do anything they want in life as long as they work hard enough and are responsible. That? Just ain’t so. Yes, hard work and personal responsibility are important, but those things can only go so far if you’re not born into a position of privilege. Sometimes, shit just happens, no matter how hard you’ve worked to do the right thing. And if you’re not lucky enough to have an existing family and/or economic safety net when it does, you’re screwed. And if you’re screwed? So are a lot of other people. Poverty and misfortune don’t just affect the person they directly happen to. None of us is an island. None of us is completely self-made or self-sufficient. Every one of us relies on other people to get by in life. And funding public services like this one helps ensure that those other people will be there, and able to help, when we need them. Safety nets aren’t there to keep people from learning how to use a trapeze. They’re there to catch them WHILE they’re learning. Mistakes made while we’re trying to figure out how to do things shouldn’t come with draconian sentences.
