Figured it was time for me to do this! And since it’s a leap day, I’m starting early. ;)
30 Days of Primeval - Day 1: Favorite Male Character
CONNOR TEMPLE
The man who started it all. :)
I have a really big weakness for geek boys. Married one, actually. So when I saw that this adorable Northern boy who played a sexy Hatter was playing a nerd, too? I promptly fell ass over tits, and haven’t looked back.
A character like Connor is usually a perennial sidekick. He’s there for comic relief, or to play human computer, and doesn’t usually get taken as seriously as the leads or the athletic badasses. But Primeval’s unique in that Connor, while not a lead, has still played a central role in the large-scale plot arcs covering all five series. Indeed, series 4 and 5 hinge fairly dramatically on what happens to him, and what he does.
It’s a pity that we likely won’t be seeing more of Mr. Temple now, but I’m at least satisfied that in many ways, we got to see him go from innocent, excitable boy to sadder-but-wiser man, creating one of the most interesting and intriguing character-development arcs in genre TV.
